New ideas for doubles are to be trialled in Madrid. To make doubles more interesting for fans, players and also tournaments.
Aim to make doubles a more sellable product. It's in everybody's best interest not to let the doubles game disappear.
Ross Hutchins representing ATP wants to encourage more doubles play.
- 32 Draw doubles
- More high-ranked singles players competing against doubles specialists - more courtside reporting
- Schedule over 5 days (Tuesday - Saturday) during week 2 of the tournament, simpler and more concise organising for players and fans.
- Reduced shot clock - to accelerate the pace of play and minimise downtime during matches. The time between points, is 15 seconds following rallies shorter than 4 shots. Four or greater, 25 seconds.
- Quicker changeovers - fewer sit-downs to keep the fast pace of play & more interesting for spectators.
- Free spectator movement in the court arena during play - better for spectator convenience.
